A couple have been charged with manslaughter after a young boy tragically died in a gas explosion that destroyed two homes and damaged another.
Darren Greenham, 44, and Sharon Greenham, 51, have been charged over the death of 2-year-old George Arthur Hinds.
The child died from the blast on May 16 while his parents, Stephen Hinds and Vicky Studholme, were injured and later discharged from the hospital.
Two more people were injured in the explosion.
A criminal investigation had identified the cause of the explosion as a gas pipe that had been cut in a house next door.
Darren and Sharon from Ambleside Avenue have been charged with theft and manslaughter, Lancashire Police said.
The couple will appear at Lancaster Magistrates’ Court on January 12, 2022.
After George’s death, his grieving parents issued a heartfelt tribute and said: “We are devastated at the loss of our beautiful George. He was so precious to us.
“We have no words to describe how we feel and just want time to ourselves to come to terms with what has happened.
“Our beautiful little angel grew his wings today.”
One person commented: “This is why you don’t play with gas lines if you’re not licensed, or even fool with them for nefarious actions. I hold a gas license, and what they did could have taken a whole neighborhood.”
Another wrote: “Put them away bloody waste of space the pair of them.”
A third said: “Maximum sentence hopefully!!!!!”
