The driver who sped his vehicle in horror, smashing and killing an innocent mother and her eight-month-old baby in a stroller, has now been jailed.
53-year-old Tyson Haynes slammed into 23-year-old mother Nicole Newman as she pushed her baby Luciano Bianco-Newman’s stroller on the streets of south-east London.
The incident occurred as the baby’s father watched in terror as his child’s stroller went flying in the air while his girlfriend slammed into the driver’s windscreen as the duo tried to cross the road.
“I was already on the other side of the road and saw the terror unfold before my eyes,” the grieving father cried.
Nicole reportedly passed away at the scene of the accident that took place on January 13 in 2019 while the young child suffered life-threatening injuries and died seven days later.
On Wednesday, the accused pleaded guilty to the horrifying crime that tore one family apart, after killing two people by his dangerous and reckless driving.
The Crown Court in Isleworth heard how the driver speeded in a persistent manner for nearly 10 minutes in the surrounding area, right before he crashed. Moreover, the court also heard how the suspect had his own 8-year-old daughter in the passenger seat while driving.
Haynes has reportedly denied alternative charges relating to dangerous driving that ultimately took away the lives of two innocent individuals.
The accused sped his vehicle at nearly 67mph on a road designed for 30mph and then began to break at nearly 29 meters away. However, he still managed to slam into the mother and son at nearly 44mph, as stated by local media outlets.
Meanwhile, the defense team spoke to the court and informed them how the accused was a patient suffering from Multiple Sclerosis since 2010 and was wheelchair-bound, adding how his condition has swiftly deteriorated after the incident.
For this reason, he has been jailed for 33 months by Judge Richard Marks, as doctors claim he may have a maximum of just four years to live.
