Three young students have passed away prematurely after a 15-year-old schoolboy opened fire at a Michigan high school.
The deadly shooting takes place in Oxford, Michigan, where a 15-year-old gunman started shooting at students and staff at Oxford High School on Tuesday afternoon.
Since the tragic incident, it has emerged that the boy was pretending to be from the sheriff’s office in an attempt to lure other students into the hallway and shoot them.
The authorities, however, have now revealed that the person telling the students it was safe to come out of the classroom was an actual police officer.
Some five minutes after the authorities were first informed of the shooting, the police have apprehended the young shooter and secured the scene.
It has since been confirmed that three students, including a 16-year-old boy, a 14-year-old girl, and a 17-year-old girl were killed in the shooting.
Furthermore, at least eight people, including a teacher, were injured after the shooter fired more than twenty shots.
“It’s a very tragic situation, obviously. You never want to prepare for something like this, but you have to, and the school district has done a wonderful job preparing,” Undersheriff Mike McCabe expressed during a press conference after distressed students were reunited with their concerned parents.
“You certainly can pray for our families here in Oxford and our students. I’m learning information in real time just as you are. Of course, I’m shocked,” Oxford Community Schools superintendent Tim Throne added.
The shooting remains under investigation. Stay tuned for updates.
