38-year-old Silipa Keresi, a launderette worker and wife of a Commonwealth Army soldier, is accused of killing and dumping her newborn baby boy Maliki Keresi in March 2020.
The woman suffered from mental distress and anxiety after applying for permission to stay in the United Kingdom. On March 5, 2020, a dog walker found the dead body of the newborn baby in Hythe, Hampshire. The woman has 4 children, 2 staying in the United Kingdom and 2 in Fiji. It is reported that she applied for an abortion before the baby’s birth but the doctors refused to do it.
The post-mortem report of the baby had revealed that the umbilical cord was still attached to him when he died.
The primary cause of the baby’s death was the omission of care.
The prosecutor has said that the woman didn’t tell her husband that she was pregnant. She was living in a small hotel room and has been moving a lot with her children.Michael Dorsett, the man who found the baby, told the authorities that he found the baby in woodland near the base of a tree.
First, he thought it was an animal, but it was clear that there was no animal when he went near it.
A small baby was wrapped in a blood-covered towel. He tried to get a response from the baby, but nothing happened to indicate his death. There were no injuries visible, and his feet were uncovered. It is suspected that the baby died of hypothermia.
The immigration status of the woman was uncertain, and she was in distress about what to do.
Her husband left for the army some time ago.
She had to pay a fee to get a leave-to-remain status, but she couldn’t afford it in this situation. She also contacted the council, but they refused to help her without immigration papers.Poverty and distress made her do this with her baby.
