The wife of the ‘hero’ taxi driver who locked a man armed with explosives in his car has spoken out to address the rumors.
On Sunday, as the Remembrance Day Parade in Liverpool was in full motion, British taxi driver David Perry reportedly stopped one of his passengers, a suspected terrorist, from blowing up innocent people at Liverpool Women’s Hospital.
After seeing the man “messing around” with his explosives, Perry allegedly locked the back doors so that the bomber couldn’t escape. Moments later, the driver charged out of the vehicle to safety as the bomb was detonated.
Following his heroic actions, Perry was dubbed a hero for stopping the bomber from reaching his destination and killing innocent people.
Now, the taxi driver’s wife, Rachel Perry, has spoken out to address the rumors and reveal just how lucky her husband was to survive with just cuts and bruises.
“I would just like to thank each and every one of you who has messaged asking how David is. He is doing ok but is extremely sore and trying to process what’s happened,” she said.
“There are a lot of rumors flying round about him being a hero and locking the passenger inside the car. But the truth of the matter is, he is without doubt, lucky to be alive. The explosion happened whilst he was in the car and how he managed to escape is an utter miracle. He certainly had some guardian angels looking over him.”
After it was revealed that the bomb was already detonated while the driver was still in the car, experts suggested that failed detonation is likely the reason why Perry survived the ordeal.
“Any type of explosion in a confined space is devastating, here it blows out the windows and sends the entire windscreen into the sky,” former counter-terror investigator David Videcette said.
“This makes obvious that the seat of the blast is where the taxi passenger was, and not the front where the driver was. The white smoke indicates the explosion was fueled by some type of explosive, the fire then takes hold and the smoke changes color as it consumes the car.
“Improvised Explosive Devices have various components, with each having to operate in the correct order, at a desired point, for there to be an explosion. Sometimes the components don’t operate in order or when desired. It’s possible what we see here is a detonator explosion that has failed to set off the main charge.”
