A pickup truck driver ran over people at a Pride parade, leaving one person dead and another in critical condition.

The incident happened at 7 pm Saturday evening in Florida after The Stonewall Pride Parade and Street Festival started.

The driver was lined up with other floats when he slammed into spectators, Local 10 reported.

Speaking to The Sun Sentinel, Mayor Dean Trantalis said after the tragedy: “This was a terrorist attack against the LGBTQ community.

“He (the driver of the white pickup truck) came here to destroy people. This was clearly no accident.”

The mayor also claimed that the attacker was ‘screaming vulgarities’ while he was being taken by police into custody.

A third person who suffered minor injuries has been taken to nearby Broward Health Medical Center.

According to reports, Democratic US Rep Debbie Wasserman Schultz was participating at the parade and the truck driver ‘narrowly’ missed hitting her.

Schultz was seen in tears as emergency services arrived at the scene and administered CPR to a victim on the road.

The driver was adorned with a rainbow flag and was wearing a Fort Lauderdale Gay Men’s Chorus t-shirt, Local 10 reports. Witnesses also ‘said the man in custody was telling police it was an accident.’

But one witness told The Sun Sentinel that “it was definitely an intentional act right across the lanes of traffic.

“All of a sudden there was a loud revving of a truck and a crash through a fence.”

Rep. Wasserman Schultz took to Twitter and said: “I am deeply shaken and devastated that a life was lost and others seriously injured at tonight’s Stonewall #Pride Parade. My staff, volunteers and I are thankfully safe.

“I want to thank our first responders for their heroic efforts as both police and emergency medical personnel stepped into action quickly.”

She added: “We’re praying for the victims and their loved ones as law enforcement investigates, and I am providing them with whatever assistance I can. I am so heartbroken by what took place at this celebration. May the memory of the life lost be for a blessing.”
