There’s always so much more to a person than meets the eye.
And while many of us may perceive to be a certain someone, the truth is far from just that. And this football coach who was once an Mc Hammer dancer is one living example.
While the two fields are absolute opposites, this man is coming clean with his past and the world is loving it. Above all, he’s showing his fellow athletes that he’s still got the moves and it’s unbelievable.
Here’s more on the famous ‘athletic’ Mc Hammer dancer that’s guaranteed to win your heart.
It all began with a passion for dance
During his younger years, coach Alonzo Carter followed his heart and pursued his dreams. And while you’re probably thinking about the world of sports, it’s certainly not that.
Alanzo, commonly called ‘Zo’ was never into blowing that whistle. Similarly, his love for dance was worlds apart from his career of coaching today. But whatever the case may be, he was a class apart from all others.
Zo loved hustling and bustling on the main stage, loving every inch of his dance job as an MC Hammer dancer. And as the backup dancer for one of the greatest entertainers of all time, he simply couldn’t get enough.
Assistant coach to San Jose Spartans- a leap of faith
Today, Zo enjoys a different kind of passion. Therefore, it’s not surprising to find him on fields, blowing his whistle, left and right. Yes, the star dancer is an assistant coach for one of football’s famous teams, the San Jose Spartans.
Furthermore, the coach admits that he doesn’t have the time or the stamina like he did, back then. And for this reason, he’s enjoying his life, mentoring other athletes. When asked about his moves, the coach said that he can’t make out time to test out some new rhythms.
But that wasn’t the answer that his team was looking for. They urged him to show off some moves and he finally agreed.
Legendary dance moves make athletes lose their minds
When he was put on the spot, you’d probably expect a football coach to under-deliver as a dancer. However, that simply wasn’t the case here.
Zo startled everyone on the field with some legendary dance moves. And it’s safe to say that this Mc Hammer dancer has still ‘got it.’
It was a dance performance that his athletes couldn’t get enough of and that’s because they’d never seen their coach in such a light-hearted and loose frame of mind. Therefore, it was an absolute treat to watch.
Coach explains his encounter with MC Hammer and his entry into dancing
Zo met leading entertainer, MC Hammer, in 1989. And surprisingly, he was hired on the spot when he auditioned. Most importantly, he even made a breakthrough feature in one of MC Hammer’s music videos ‘Let’s Get It Started.’
Zo even got the opportunity to tour the entire summer with all of MC Hammer and his team. And for him, it was an incredible experience of a lifetime.
However, Zo returned back to school to finish his degree after summer. Simultaneously, he continued playing football during his educational span.
Zo admits that it was very hard for him to inch away from dancing. And in the end, Zo left school to become one of MC Hammer’s leading permanent dancers. Similarly, he traveled with the star’s entourage, taking part in large scale events and award shows.
This included the Movie Awards, Oprah Winfrey Show, and even the famed MTV Music Awards.
With moves like that and a passion for football, Zo’s life example is proof that life is truly what you make of it.
