Michael Strahan’s 19-year-old daughter Isabella was diagnosed with brain cancer and forced to undergo an emergency surgery.
The Good Morning America anchor and his teenage daughter appeared in a segment that aired on Thursday to share some devastating news about Isabella’s health battle.
The teenager broke into tears as she was overcome with emotion while explaining that the doctors diagnosed her with brain cancer and that she was forced to undergo emergency surgery on October 27, just a day before her birthday after a golf-sized growth was discovered.
“I’m feeling good. Not too bad,” the young girl admitted after the procedure to remove the growth at Cedars-Sinai. She also revealed she’s starting chemotherapy at Duke Children’s Hospital & Health Center in North Carolina next month.
“That’s my next step. I’m ready for it to start and be one day closer to being over. I’m very excited for this whole process to wrap. But you just have to keep living every day, I think, through the whole thing,” she added.
Breaking his silence was also Michael who spoke to co-anchor Robin Roberts in the special segment.
“I literally think that, in a lot of ways, I’m the luckiest man in the world, because I’ve got an amazing daughter,” the proud dad said.
“I know she’s going through it, but I know that we’re never given more than we can handle and that she is going to crush this.”
Elsewhere in the episode, Isabella also admitted that she hadn’t experienced any symptoms until the beginning of October when she started suffering from headaches and nausea and found it difficult to walk straight.
It wasn’t until October 25, however, that the family rushed the University of Southern California freshman to the hospital after she started “throwing up blood.”
Our thoughts remain with Isabella and the family during this challenging time.
