A young woman left her family devastated and heartbroken after succumbing to a brief and sudden illness.
23-year-old Rebekah May Emmett from Wellington, New Zealand, was a “kind” and “beautiful” dresser who died after a short fight with meningococcal, a severe disease that often results in infections of the spinal cord and the lining of the brain.
In a tribute to the beloved young lady, her family revealed that Rebekah was a “beautiful girl” who was “suddenly and unfairly taken” from so many.
Grieving loved ones also revealed that Emmett was passionate about music, dancing, and animals, and that she was working as a stylist at Z & Hair Co before her premature passing.
“She was cherished and adored by all who knew her,” the family wrote.
Paying respects to the dedicated musician, who competed in The New Zealand Pipe Band Championships and participated in the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo festival, was also Pipe Major Jarrod Cawood who recalled Rebekah’s “vibrant smile” and “genuine care” for other people.
“Whether it was her vibrant smile, her unwavering support, or her genuine care for others, she left an indelible mark on our hearts,” Cawood said.
“Let us remember Rebekah not only for the profound impact she had on our lives but also for the joy, laughter, and love she brought into our community.
“May her spirit continue to inspire us as we honor her memory and support one another through this challenging time.”
Another friend of the 23-year-old wrote: “This is so devastating to hear, she has the biggest heart.”
A third expressed: “My heart is breaking. I’ll miss her terribly.”
Since the tragic news, Rebekah’s family asked for donations to be made to the SPCA (The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) in lieu of floral tributes to honor the late hairstylist’s love for animals.
Our thoughts remain with Rebekah’s loved ones during this challenging time.
