Ray Liotta’s cause of death has finally been revealed almost a year after he was found dead at the age of 67.
Best known for his impressive roles in Field of Dreams and Something Wild, the actor was reportedly filming Dangerous Waters when he suddenly suffered a heart attack.
He died in his sleep and his lifeless body was found by his girlfriend.
According to documents obtained by TMZ, the Goodfellas star had suffered acute heart failure and pulmonary edema – an abnormal buildup of fluid in the lungs.
Liotta also suffered from atherosclerosis, which is a large build-up of fats, cholesterol, and other substances on and in the artery walls. This condition can result in other complications such as blood clots and blocked arteries.
TMZ reported that the documents categorized the actor’s manner of death as natural.
With a lengthy career spanning more than 40 years, Riotta was known as a legendary icon in the acting industry. His most notable role was Henry Hill in Goodfellas, a crime drama starring other icons including Joe Pesci, Lorraine Bracco, and Robert De Niro.
After the news of his passing, Bracco took to Twitter and paid tribute to her co-star.
“I am utterly shattered to hear this terrible news about my Ray,” she wrote.
“I can be anywhere in the world & people will come up & tell me their favorite movie is Goodfellas. Then they always ask what was the best part of making that movie. My response has always been the same… Ray Liotta.”
Actor Jeffrey Write also tweeted: “Ray Liotta. Man. Just met dude for the first time last year. GREAT actor. Nice to have had a chance to say that to him. RIP.”
